A youth football coach has reportedly gone on a killing spree after taking the life of Carla Schauer, her two teenage sons, aged 13 and 19, and the latter’s 21-year-old girlfriend.
The 33 year old coach named locally as Thomas N has been arrested on suspicion of cutting the throats of the four deceased before setting fire to the house.
According to Sky Sports, investigators believe the suspect tricked his way into the Schauers’ home in Rupperswil near Zurich on 21 December then forced the mother to bind and gag the other victims before taking her out to withdraw around 11,000 Swiss Francs (£7,600) from her account.
On returning the suspect tied her up, raped the younger son, before cutting the throats of all four then setting fire to the house.
He confessed to the crimes after he was arrested on Thursday, April 12.
A spokesman for FC Sarmenstorf – the club where he had been a coach – said: “Nobody in the club would have thought Thomas would be capable of this, he was always decent.”
Prosecutor Barbara Loppacher said the suspect is unmarried with no previous convictions or connections to the victims and acted alone as his sexual and financial urges caused him to kill. Police have reportedly matched his DNA and fingerprints to the crime scene. A police inspector said his arrest saved others from suffering similar fate to that of the Schauers’. He said: “Based on yesterday’s search of the home, further investigations and questioning, we have to assume that the perpetrator had concrete plans for similar crimes.”
